Simple Moroccan Spice Blend


This low calorie spice blend does wonders for flavoring meats & provides health benefits.



Recipe:

  • 1 Tbsp cumin

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 Tbsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp ginger

  • 2 tsp sesame seeds

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric & a pinch of black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp sea salt

  • optional add ins: 1 tsp Trader Joe's mushroom seasoning & 2 tsp Trader Joe's bbq coffee rub

  • 2 lbs of chicken drums - Remove skin for a lower cal option


Directions:

  1. Blend spice mix. Take a large glass container that has a lid. Add chicken and toss in the spices. Cap the container.

  2. Shake until chicken is evenly coated.

  3. Bake, grill, or air fry.


Some of the health benefits:

  • Cumin: helps digestion

  • Paprika: provides capsaicin to help reduce inflammation

  • Cinnamon: for blood sugar management 1/2 tsp per day

  • Garlic: boost immune health (choose fresh over powder to get all the benefits)

  • Ginger: helps with stomach upset

  • Turmeric PLUS black pepper: reduces inflammation (black pepper helps your body absorb more curcumin, the active compound found in turmeric.

  • Sesame seeds: blood pressure management & anti-inflammatory

  • Sea salt: electrolyte (1 tsp is 2300 mg salt, if you have high blood pressure, limit to 1500 mg per day, 1/4 tsp is 575 mg for 2 lb of chicken)
